“Horrible”

I've stayed in some bad places over the course of my job, but this one took the cake. I was in Dallas for two weeks for company training. The room I was booked in was a suite with a kitchen. The room smelled TERRIBLE. It smelled like something had rotted in the refrigerator at some point. I wound up going to Wal-Mart to buy several air fresheners. The room was also very warm but the thermostat was set high so I turned it down and figured it would change overnight. The next morning it was still 84F in my room. In the three days I was there it never got colder than 80F. I asked the desk clerk about it and he said "Yeah, we've had several complaints. Let me call the owners." He called the guy on speaker phone and the response from the owner was, "It's summer in Dallas, what the hell does he expect?" They said that they couldn't move me to a different room. There was also mold. The rooms have central A/C with vents running along the top of the walls. There was black mold growing all over the vent covers and down the wall below them. I took pictures of them as well as the thermostat to send to my company dispatcher in hopes of getting moved to a new hotel. By the third day, I had lost my voice and my sinuses were killing me. The final straw was when I went to get into my room after a day of training and the door was locked. The desk clerk blamed it on me keeping my room key too close to my phone but she didn't understand that my key was working; the door was physically locked. After she finally came up to see what I was talking about, I had to wait an hour for someone to come open the door because the dead-bolt had somehow triggered when the cleaning staff cleaned my room that day. By this point my dispatchers had received the photos and my complaints and told me to get out and they had a room reserved elsewhere for me. This hotel has been removed from our company's list of lodging and we definitely will not be back.
