“Decent, clean, close”

  , Alameda
This hotel is provides decent, clean, and rather roomy rooms, perfect for visiting family or friends in Alameda or Jack London Square. Our in-laws stay here when they visit us, and we stayed here for 4 nights while our floors were being refinished. The only two concerns I had were 1)they keep the lobby incredibly hot - I wonder if this is to discourage people from hanging around the free breakfast and happy hour, but it sets a bad tone. (I'm used to walking into a hotel on a hot day and going "ahhhh - nice" rather than grimacing at the thought of having to go downstairs.) and 2)they don't empower their front desk staff. When we checked in, we were placed in a "handicap-accesable" room with missing electrical-plate covers (?) terrible smell of cigarette smoke (although the hotel is non-smoking) and our phone was terribly faulty to the point that we could not hear anyone calling from the front desk (something very wrong with the volume) and the room line DIALED 911!! (The front desk apparently was calling us to ask if we called 911, but of course we couldn't hear them, and after going down to the hellaciously hot lobby to ask what the front desk wanted, were met by a POLICE OFFICER who took our name and number.) I was not impressed at all by the lack-of-caring evidences by the front desk woman, who I had to plead to give me a new phone. Finally, when I insisted she move us as I was NOT up to having the police wake my family up at 2 am if the phone line malfunctioned again, she moved us after really pushing not to, and then told me my family would have to move back to the faulty room on our 4th night. (They eventually let us stay in the decent room.)All that being said, I would recommend this as really the only decent hotel in Alameda, and our second, regular room was just right for our short family stay.
