“Unfortunate Experience”

Things started well and uneventful. The initial service by the desk staff was average and the room was clean and spacious. However, I was very clear with the hotel staff at both check in and check out that I wanted to pay cash for my portion of the bill and I was told that would not be a problem. But apparently it was a huge problem. The woman who checked us out took about 14 or 15 minutes to log on to the computer and complete the simple check out transaction. She took my cash and gave me a receipt. The next day, I checked my checking account and Hawthorne Suites also deducted the exact amount from my checking account and clearly charged me twice. When I called the hotel manager, Terry, and explained the situation, she was rude and unhelpful. She claimed that my account would be reimbursed within 1 to 3 business days and would send me the email to verify this. I never received any email verifying the reimbursement and my account continues to reflect a withdrawal from Hawthorne Suites in the amount I already paid in cash. When I called a 2nd time 2 days later and spoke to a woman named Sarah, she was also rude, unhelpful and argumentative and told me that their records indicate that my card was reimbursed, even though I told her I was viewing my checking account statement on-line and it showed a Hawthorne Suite withdrawal, she argued with me that their records indicated my account was reimbursed. Sarah also assured me that I would receive an email that showed my account was reimbursed. She was condescending and made the crack, "Let's get your email again, just so, um, there isn't another misunderstanding..." And for the second time, I never received an email verifying my account was reimbursed. I have since contacted my bank and have filed a dispute. I faxed a copy of my receipt to my bank showing I paid in cash and that Hawthorne charged my bank account as well. Unreal and completely frustrating. I'll never stay at a Hawthorne Hotel again. The staff made absolutely no attempt to help me or rectify the situation. Their only concern was to make excuses for themselves and insist I was wrong. Horrible service.
